Pokkén Tournament to hit Wii U in Spring 2016

It’s Pokemon meets Tekken. Just yes.

Great news Poke-fans! Not only do the Pokemon World Championships start today, we have a new game coming to us. Pokkén Tournament, previously only available on arcades in Japan, has been announced for worldwide release on Wii U in Spring 2016.

The game, developed by Tekken publisher Bandai Namco, essentially takes the fighting style of Tekken but mashes it together with Pokemon. Excellent. The arcade version of the game features Pokemon Lucario, Machamp, Suicune, Gardevoir, Pikachu, Gengar, Weaville, Charizard, and Blaziken with support from Emolga , Fennekin, Snivy, Frogadier, Eevee, Lapras, Whimsicott and Jirachi. The only information we have from the home version of the game is that a new character Pikachu Libre will feature. My hunger for all things Pokemon makes me hope for a larger cast than this. If you have Weaville you have to have Hitmonchan!

Have a look at the game’s trailer, if only to see the interesting looking Pikachu Libre in action:

As excited as I am though, I’m taking this game as a stepping stone. I look at that POV, those graphics, that game play and I think ‘where the hell is my open world Pokemon console game?’ I hope this is an indication that it’s closer than ever.
