It’s not long until November 10th when Fallout 4 is due to be released, and it seems that in an attempt to get us all excited about it, Bethesda are kicking their hype campaign into action. The developer has released the first in a series of seven videos from Vault-Tec which will aim to prepare players for the Wasteland by explaining the seven upgradeable attributes that will make up your post-apocalyptic hero and impact how they survive and thrive outside of their vault. Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility and Luck; however you decide to prioritise them, they’ll be what makes your character S.P.E.C.I.A.L.
The first video released today covers Strength. Focussing on strength will allow you to carry more items, and make you a much more formidable opponent with melee weapons by increasing the damage you can do. Take a look:
Perception has a direct effect on your ranged combat and the First Aid, Doctor, Lockpick, Traps and Pilot skills. Players who have higher Perception may notice things that allow them to select new dialogue options.
Improving your endurance means improving your stamina and physical toughness which could help you survive where others may not. You’ll be more resistant to radiation in foods and in the environment, be able to run for longer, and turn to cannibalism to survive if you can stomach that.
There’s nothing wrong with being likeable, certainly not in the Wasteland anyway. Focussing on being more charismatic will allow you to charm people and animals, barter for items, even have people perform tasks for you.You could live a charmed life if you’re charming.
You’re not going to get very far in the wasteland without brains to back you up. Increasing your intelligence will improve technology skills for hacking and inventing, science skills, and medicine skills. It’s survival of the smartest!
With the ability to act more quickly in VATS, reload your weapons faster, and sneak more effectively, it’s safe to say being agile could save your life in the Wasteland.
Sometimes, no matter how skilled you are, your survival falls down to chance, so you’ll want Lady Luck on your side. Being lucky in the Wasteland means finding more valuable items when exploring, and you might just be more likely to get a critical shot when facing an enemy.
These instructional videos are the perfect way to get fans excited for Fallout 4’s release. Bring on the Wasteland!
