Some games are just too good to leave languishing on old operating systems, which must be why Blizzard has set up a new Classic Games division and started hiring developers.
The Senior Developer position being advertised on the careers section of Blizzard’s website was spotted by NeoGAF and names Starcraft, Warcraft III, and Diablo II as games that the company are looking to “restore to glory.” It doesn’t seem like this is going to be a particularly massive project for Blizzard, as far as game development projects go, as the role does ask that applicants like “wearing many hats” and “know small teams are the most effective.” Blizzard are perhaps dipping their toes in this project with these games before throwing themselves into it on a larger scale.
It is, admittedly, nice seeing a large developer maintaining support for old fan favourites. Whether or not these restorations to glory will involve a complete remastering of graphics we’re not sure, but if that is the case it would be nice to see the option to click back and see the original graphics as was done with the recent Monkey Island remasters.
