We’re 6 months old today! Here are our most popular posts of all time

The Greatest Hits of Gadgette

Six months ago today, we pressed the big red button.

Since then, we’ve come a heck of a long way. We’ve grown from zero users to over 80,000 a month (and rising rapidly). We’ve been linked in the Guardian, Standard, Telegraph, Forbes, Fortune, the Independent, Engadget, the Huffington Post, Salon, Mic, Business Insider, The Next Web and the BBC. Our Editor won Woman of the Year for starting the site. We’ve held our first event and been shortlisted for our first award.

And most importantly, we’ve found our tribe: a whole load of amazing, ambitious and geeky-as-hell gadget fans that read us and write for us. We’ve proved everyone who said a female tech site was a terrible idea wrong as hell, and we’ve had a whale of a time doing it.

To celebrate our birthday, here are 6 of our most popular articles from the last 6 months.

1. A games company just came up with the worst excuse ever for their half-dressed female character

Back in 2013, Metal Gear Solid fans were presented with the barely-dressed character design for female sniper assassin Quiet. The reaction wasn’t entirely positive, but Hideo Kojima stepped forward to assure fans that there was a perfectly reasonable narrative justification for the character’s attire. We now have that “justification”…

It’s no secret that I’m far from Apple’s biggest fan. In fact, despite what Reddit seems to think, I’m firmly Team Android. But that doesn’t mean I don’t give Apple credit where it’s due – it’s just that it seems to be due less and less these days. Last night’s announcement was their worst yet…

Sadly, not all the memories Facebook throws up in its On This Day feature are as happy as the one in this publicity photo. Inspired by this incredibly sad post, we want to show you how to turn off Facebook Memories if you don’t want to see the posts anymore. While there’s no official way to opt-out (and we strongly believe there should be), there IS a way to turn the posts off so you won’t see them in your timeline…

Some speakers are so good that there should be laws against having them in either houseshares or buildings with thin walls. The Bose Soundtouch 10 is definitely one of these, and that’s a good thing. This surprisingly small speaker puts out loud, bassy, thumpy sound as loud as you could possibly want, with pin-drop clarity that caused my housemate to stick his head out of the door the second I switched it on…

Sigh. I really, really wanted to love this phone. But I can’t.

Aside from the frankly outrageous pricing issue, the battery life is poor and so is performance. The clock bug is annoying, it’s lacking in RAM, and apart from the superb screen and speakers, everything else is average. There’s nothing to get excited about other than the look of the handset – if you don’t mind the iPhone comparisons…

As always happens in Bethesda’s open world games, you can often start out on the main quest with the best intentions of getting to the end of it before you start exploring everything else. But in a game world as wide and interesting as the Commonwealth and with a player with such a short attention span as I, that was never going to happen…

Thank you all so much for your support. We’re raising a slice of cake to you – here’s to the next 6 months.
