It’s hard to believe it’s been around this long but February 27th is being marked as Pokémon’s 20th birthday, so of course Nintendo have to do something to celebrate, and of course it’s in the form of some special edition goodies.
Coming to the UK on February 27th are three special edition 2DS consoles which come pre-installed with a digital edition of the classic Red, Blue, or Yellow games and are themed around the game’s colour. The bundles also come with a code to download a special Pokémon theme, as well as stickers for customisation. We’d be tempted to catch ’em all, but we feel that might be a little expensive. If you’d like the games but would rather skip the special edition console, you’ll also be able to download the digital classics on the same day for your 2DS or 3DS via the Nintendo e-shop.
It looks like there’s a super cool special edition 3DS console confirmed for the US which features Charizard and Blastoise cover plates and the Red and Blue editions of the games pre-installed, but there’s nothing about this coming to the UK unfortunately.
When it comes to the 3DS in the UK it’s been confirmed that we’ll be getting new Pokémon cover plates, with a Mystery Dungeon version being released on February 19th and a simple Pokémon covered version on the 27th.
These aren’t the only things happening, either. The Pokémon Company has released a video detailing more aspects of the celebration which will see in-game mythical Pokémon distributions for owners of the X, Y, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire editions, special expansions to the trading card game, and digital remasters of the Pokémon movies that will be available on Google Play, iTunes, and Amazon Instant Video.
