The Internet Archive has added over 1000 Windows 3.1 games

The 90s kids are approaching

For anyone that loves a bit of retro gaming, The Internet Archive has proven to be a convenient treasure chest. Just last year the site began hosting thousands of browser-based DOS classics and now it’s expanding the collection to include Windows 3.1 games. Prepare to see a resurgence in that ‘only 90s kids’ meme.

There are more than 1000 games available but the search function isn’t fantastic and that leaves you with a lot of games to search through. That said, we thoroughly enjoyed just scrolling through the games to get a sense of what was there and being seriously bowled over with nostalgia. SimEarth is in there!

There are a few more classics we highly recommend like Castle of the Winds, Risk, Ski Free, and Brick Breaker II Turbo all of which play effortlessly in your browser. They’ll also effortlessly steal hours from your day. These games might be incredibly simple, but they’re definitely fun. And at the very least they allow you to see just how far videogames have come in such a short period of time.

You can access the full library here, and ordering by views will take you to the most popular titles first. Now, if you’ll excuse me I’ll be playing Hanna Barbera’s Cartoon Carnival without shame.
